Madurai:

This beautiful city nestles on the banks of River Vaigai. This city is quite popularly known as Thoonga Nagaram which in English translates to a city that never sleeps due to its night activities. This city enjoys quite a huge crown of about 9 million people every year out of which about 5 million are foreigners. Apart from being an educational and industrial hub, this city boasts of many notable historical monuments such as the Meenakshi Amman Temple and Tirumalai Nayak Palace. The word Madurai is said to be derived from Madhura which means sweetness arising out of the divine nectar by the Hindu god Shiva from his unkempt hair. The Gandhi museum which is located here has the stained clothes of Mahatma Gandhi after being assassinated by nathuram ghodse. Some notable places to visit are Sri Meenakshi temple-boasts of ancient unrivalled architecture which will leave you amazed, Alagarkoil temple and shrine, Pazhamudhir Soali, Aaiyiram Kaal Mandapam, Koodal Azhagar Temple, Thirumalai Nayakar Mahal and many more.Non veg of Madurai is quite well known. Some notable cuisines include Sundal, steamed tapioca, kolakkattai, urundais etc. The prasadams offered in temples are also very tasty and appetizing which includes murrukku, laddu, appam and pulihoras.

Day 1: Madurai To Rameswaram
After your arrival in Madurai, drive to Rameswaram. Check in at the hotel on your arrival in Rameswaram. In the afternoon, proceed to visit the Ramanathaswamy Temple. Later in the evening, proceed to visit the APJ Abdul Kalam Memorial and the Ariyaman Beach. Retire for the night at the hotel.
Day 2: Rameswaram To Madurai
Check out from the hotel in the morning and set out to visit the Dhanushkodi Beach. Later, proceed towards Madurai. After your arrival in Madurai, check in at the hotel and proceed to visit the famous Meenakshi Amman Temple, the Tirumalai Nayak Palace, the Gandhi Memorial Museum and the Tiruparankundram Temple. In the evening, head out to witness the night ceremony at the Meenakshi Amman Temple. Have a pleasant overnight stay in Madurai.
Day 3: Madurai To Madurai
Check out from the hotel in the morning and drive to the Alagarkoil Temple, which is dedicated to Lord Vishnu (located around 30 km from Madurai). In the afternoon, you are free to go shopping. Later in the evening, you will be transferred to the airport/railway station to board your return flight/train back home after a memorable pilgrimage.
